I've had a love for photography since around the age of 11. I've been searching since then, for different ways to express myself as a creative artist, maintain an edge and constantly improve the best version of myself. Since a few years ago, I've became fascinated with film photography. At this point in society, there is a saying that states "film is not dead" - and I strongly believe that to be true.
I feel like there are quite a few people - especially my age - who are finding themselves a bit curious about film photography. Whether it's the vintage look of the equipment or the already built in Instagram filters on the finished product; I don't know. But what I do know, is that it is one large part of photography that I have yet to do. In college, I took a History of Photography course as part of the curriculum, and I found it fascinating. We learned about the first camera and how it evolved over time to become what we know now as Digital Photography. I've never explored film photography and I feel like it's a fundamental part of the art that I'm missing out on.
There is just something so powerful about a photograph captured on film. And the more I discover photographers that I admire, such as Annie Leibovitz and Ansel Adams, I realize that the greats have all come from that place of pure, concrete knowledge of the camera and fundamentals of the art. I am not saying that once I go deep into film photography, understand it and start practicing it, that I will become the next photographer genius. What I am saying is that I love a challenge, and I am always looking for ways to improve and test my photography skills - and what better way than to put my eye to the test and shoot some real raw photographs.
Thank you so much for reading!
I hope you enjoyed this little sneak peak into my current mind set. Starting 2018, I will be starting to play with film and I want to document and take you with me on my journey.
